Gazi Rakayet’s critically acclaimed movie “The Grave” has been shortlisted in the reminder list of productions eligible for the 94th Academy Awards.
Bangladesh first state financed English movie will be competing for nominations alongside 276 movies which includes popular movies such as “Eternals” and “No Way Home: Spider Man”.
Directed by the National Film awardee Gazi Rakayet, the film was released in both Bangla (title “Gor”) and English, with an aim to reach viewers internationally. Story, dialogues, and screenplay have also been done by Gazi Rakayet.
“To my knowledge, it is the first Bangladeshi film to compete in the general criteria in the Oscars,” says the director. “It has certainly opened many doors for us.”
He also informed that ten thousand voters (noted directors, cinematographers, and actors) will participate in the selection of the winners in 20 categories. 120 films will be elected for the final nominations. Voting will begin from January 27 to run until February 1. The final nomination list will be announced on February 8.
“The Grave” is also available on three US-based streaming platforms—Quibi, Typhoon, and Plex. It was released in Hollywood’s Oscar qualified cinema hall with screening 21 shows.
